Question, scoped Can you live in Dallas without driving everywhere, and which rail line goes where? As of October 2026. Service patterns change; confirm on https://www.dart.org before relying on a route. The answer DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) runs four light-rail lines, all passing through downtown Dallas: - Red Line: south Oak Cliff north through downtown, Richardson and on to Plano. - Blue Line: south Dallas to Garland and Rowlett in the northeast. - Green Line: Carrollton and Farmers Branch through Love Field-area stations, downtown, Fair Park, and on to southeast Dallas. - Orange Line: shares track with other lines, and serves Irving and DFW Airport. The Silver Line is a separate regional commuter rail line across the northern suburbs, linking DFW Airport with Addison, Richardson and Plano. Check dart.org for its current stations and schedule. Beyond DART: - The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) commuter train runs between downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. - TEXRail runs from Fort Worth to DFW Airport. - The Dallas Streetcar runs from Union Station to the Bishop Arts District. Fares are paid with the GoPass app or at station ticket machines. Sourced DART system map and schedules (https://www.dart.org). What would change this answer New lines or service changes. DART publishes service-change notices in advance. Living car-light here works best near a station with a grocery store in walking distance. Our map tool shows both: https://map.soapbox.community.
