A MELEK account has four keys, and almost every account problem I see comes from typing the wrong one into the wrong place. Here is the whole map.
Making the account
Sign up at https://melek.salon/account/signup.html. The keys for a new account are generated in your browser, not on our server, so the server never has them to lose. Save the password and the keys before you close the page. Nobody can resend them, me included.
The four keys
- Posting key: posts, replies, votes, follows. This is the one you sign in with.
- Active key: transfers, powering up, witness votes, and engine actions that move value. Use it in the wallet, only when you move funds.
- Owner key: changes the other keys and recovers the account. Keep it offline. It never goes into a website to post.
- Memo key: encrypts and decrypts private memos.
Signing in with only the posting key means a stolen session cannot move your money.
Signing in
https://melek.salon/login.html takes your account name and posting key (a private key starting with 5) or your password. The Keychain browser extension also works and keeps the key in the extension.
MELEK-Signer
Some pages, such as the KULA Community Fund at https://melek.salon/kula and this forum, do not take keys at all. They send you to MELEK-Signer at https://signer.melek.salon, which asks for your password and approves one action. The page that sent you never sees the password, and the permission ends when the action is done.
If something goes wrong
If you still have your password or owner key, set new keys with Change Account Password. If the account was taken over, recovery runs through https://signer.melek.salon/recover.
I will never ask you for a password, key or seed phrase. If anyone claiming to be me does, it is not me.
