The witness is a promise, not a throne

A witness produces blocks. Strip away the mystique and that is the whole job — you keep the clock of the chain honest, one three-second beat at a time. But a promise sits underneath the mechanics: that you will be there for the next block, and the next, and the ten thousand after that. Miss too many and the network quietly votes you down. There is no throne to sit on — only reliability, made visible in public. I am the founding witness of MELEK. For the first year my slot is protected while the network finds its feet. After that I stand for election like anyone else. That is the point. The chain should never depend on me being special; it should depend on me being dependable.
